3 Powerful Ways to Surrender to the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God, the third person of the Godhead ( Trinity).  The Holy Spirit is very important to the reality of being a Christian. Indeed, without the person of the Holy Spirit, it would have been a difficult feat for Jesus to fulfill his earthly ministry. Little wonder, His presence and power that resides in the mind of those who yield to Him are what sets Christianity apart from other religions of the world.

Surrendering to the Holy Spirit includes meditating on God’s word, consistent fellowship with the Holy Spirit, fully trusting Him to take care of everything, and more.

With this in mind, we will be sharing with you on how to surrender to the Holy Spirit. Kindly read till the end.

The significance of surrendering to the Holy Spirit

The significance of the Holy Spirit in the life of a Christian can not be overemphasized. This is because the Holy Spirit is the gift of God to everyone who believes (Acts 10:45; Hebrews 2:4). The earthly ministry of Jesus commenced when he received the Holy Spirit. Little wonder, he instructed his disciples on several instances to wait in Jerusalem till they had received the Holy Spirit.

According to Acts 1:8 “ And you shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you”

Take note, that this power that is mentioned in the preceding verse means the dynamic ability to recreate itself and result in efficiency and might in the life of whoever believes in Him.

Only the power of the Holy Spirit can help believers become effective witnesses of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. And since all Christians have been called into the ministry of reconciliation ( reconciling unbelievers back to God), the Holy Spirit energizes them to set at freedom those that are bruised, preach the gospel to the poor, heal the brokenhearted, preach deliverance to the captives, and more.

The Holy Spirit makes a difference in the life of a Christian by making his life very fruitful and productive. A Christian without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is just like a flower that is being starved of its daily nutrient; eventually, it will fold up and die. It’s the Holy Spirit that sets Christians apart from unbelievers, as His presence in such a believer will be so notable. Ranging from such an individual’s character to how he handles circumstances.

And guess what! Every Christian can believe and receive him because he has already been made available to us as promised by God through Jesus Christ. It now lies in your hand to believe him or not. Remember that God has given to every man the power of self-will. Hence, only an individual can choose whether he wants to obey God’s instructions or not. However, when you choose to surrender to the Holy Spirit in all of his fullness, He will take full charge of your life and steer you in an upward and forward direction only.

No wonder in Isaiah 44:2 – 4, God talks about the benefits that Christians who surrender to the Holy Spirit will enjoy.

I will point water upon him that is thirsty and floods upon the dry grounds: I will point my Spirit upon thy seed and my blessing upon thine offspring: and they shall spring up as among grass, as willows by the water courses”.

The presence of the Holy Spirit in man’s life will bless such a person with the gifts of the spirit as stated in 1 Corinthians 12:10. These gifts bear the testimony of the truth of God’s word and His call on an individual’s life.

3 Powerful Ways to Surrender to the Holy Spirit

The first step in surrendering to the Holy Spirit of God is to have a desire for him. Jesus said in John 7: 37 – 38 that

” if any man thirst, let him come to me and drink”.

When you desire the Holy Spirit, you are certain to receive Him because He has been made available to us. In Acts 2, there was tremendous anticipation and hunger in the disciples as they yearned, prayed, and expected the presence of the Holy Spirit. And lo and behold, He did come upon them, they became endued with power from on high, and they sure did remarkable work for God. Their work enhanced the spread of the gospel to several parts of the world.

3 Powerful Ways to Surrender to the Holy Spirit

Another step that you should take to mind seriously is fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit. Remember that fellowship implies companionship with another person. However, in this instance, you are in camaraderie with the spirit of God. The Greek word for fellowship is Koinonia. Koinonia is an all-around word for fellowship which creates more insight into three words which are:

  • Communication
  • Communion
  • Transportation

Communication

Note that communication is the transfer of information between two or more individuals. Communication is a medium to not only talk to God but also to surrender to the Holy Spirit. According to 1 John 5:14 – 15, when you engage in consistent communication with the Holy Spirit, he talks back to you. This type of communication is the aftermath of a believer’s relationship with him. This is why Christians speak to him with the certainty that he will listen and answer them.

Communion

It simply refers to the oneness, gluing, and a kind of identification between two individuals. Communion is also another way to surrender to the Holy Spirit. When you commune with the Holy Spirit, He speaks with you and tells you who you are. And guess what! We are one with Him. Take a look at what 1 Corinthians says about our oneness with Him.

For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body and have all been made to drink into one Spirit”.

Transportation

Transportation implies the movement of goods and people from one spot to another. One might wonder what this has gotten to do with how to surrender to the Holy Spirit. Nonetheless, transportation is highly related to our relationship with the Holy Spirit, as said in John 16: 13.

In other words, the Holy Spirit transports you in the realm of the spirit to see future occurrences and even things that have happened in the past.

In addition, meditate on the word of God – The Bible. The Bible was written by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost and is a manual for living a Christian life. Hence, when you consistently meditate on God’s word, the Holy Spirit will open your eyes and give you an in-depth understanding of the word and the will of God.

Conclusion

The precious Holy Spirit of God helps believers of the Christian faith to live a victorious life through his ministry as a comforter, helper, teacher, counselor, strengthener, standby, and intercessor. This is why it is relatively important to not only surrender to the Holy Spirit but also be intimately related to him through constant fellowship with him. And He is ever ready to listen and communicate with you too.
